A US army photographer who was killed in Afghanistan has had her final photo released.
Hilda Clayton was a 22-year-old visual information specialist (Spc) who took a photo of a mortar tube explosion that killed her and four other Afghan National Army soldiers one of whom she was training in photojournalism.
The photos are meant as a tribute to her and her work in the Military Review Journal.
“Not only did Clayton help document activities aimed at shaping and strengthening the partnership but she also shared in the risk by participating in the effort.”
Spc. Clayton was a member of the Fort Meade, Maryland-based 55th Signal Company, which has a long history of photographing scenes on the front lines of war.
Clayton was the first Army combat photographer killed in Afghanistan.
