Last week Kevin De León's SB 54, the bill that would make California a "sanctuary state", passed the state senate.
If Sacramento makes SB 54 the law of the land, law enforcement would be restricted from using their resources to aid federal immigration agents.
They would be barred from following the law. So what are local agencies going to do?
El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini says he'll refuse to go along with any "sanctuary state" policies:
“I’m going to follow federal law on this issue. It’s concerning because its going to put me crosswise with state law.”
D'Agostini believes no politician should tell local police officers to withhold information about criminal activity from the feds:
“I believe it’s not lawful."
While he doesn't plan to actively search for illegals to bust, he is concerned about violent criminals getting protection under the bill.
That's the most dangerous part about SB 54. It protects violent criminals by hindering law enforcement from doing their job.
