Girl Found Living with Monkeys in a Forest

Police in India are trying to identify a young girl they found in a forest living with a group of monkeys.

They found her more than two months ago, naked and emaciated but she appeared to be calm and at ease.

The police were alerted to the girl when woodcutters in the area spotted the 10-12 year old child.

As officers tried to approach her, the monkeys circled the girl trying to protect her and began to attack them.

When they were finally able to rescue the child and get to their patrol car, the monkey tried to chase them.

She was taken to a hospital and has remained their since as police try to piece together what happened to her and how she ended up in the forest.

Police officer Dinesh Tripathi says based on her mannerisms it appears the girl lived with the monkeys since she was an infant.

She is capable of walking normally on two feet but would randomly drop to the floor on all fours.

Chief medical superintendent at the hospital, D.K. Singh says her movements were that of an animal.

“She would throw food on the ground and eat it directly with her mouth, without lifting it with her hands. She used to move around using only her elbows and her knees.”

The doctors are trying to teach her how to behave more like a human and have made some significant progress in the last few months.

She can now walk normally, eat with her hands but is still unable to speak.
